“Deputy Jesus”, A Warning To All Those Awaiting To Go To Work In Saudia Arabia (By Wanja Kimani)

Allow me to express sincere angst about the “newbies" in Saudi Arabia. I am one of them, only that I was rescued on time. I am disappointed in everyone for a different reason. Kindly follow.

First Deputy Jesus category are those newbies, and those in the training centres awaiting travel. Those ones have been warned, are being warned and even their conscience is whispering to them consistently! But hey, they think they can pray better or those are just rumours, or it cannot happen to them... And really, I don't blame anyone for being optimistic, I WAS!

The other Deputy Jesus lot comprises those who have been in Saudi long enough, so they feel almighty. Just because it did not happen to them, they are all over discrediting the experiences of other people! Some in my DM tell me they only persevered because they had no hopes of returning home even if they wanted to. It is not that they didn't experience abuse (90% will talk about first house this, first house that); I mean, someone cannot be a “kemboi" without valid reasons.

My desire is this: we all admit that there are changes that need to be made. I won't tell anyone not to go, but I would urge them to wait for just a little while until protective legislation is implemented. I say again, if anyone is in a good place they should just thank God silently without bashing those who aren't lucky like them. As a believer, I know the grace of God is sufficient- it is the favour He grants us even though we don't deserve it. Nobody should ever take the grace of God for granted, or thump on their chest with pride thinking they are better workers than the unlucky ones.

Another thing is this: the ones who are in training centres should heed to this warning, more like a PLEA. Going there despite the warnings, is more like putting God to the test. Yes I believe in prayers, but we should never throw ourselves into an OBVIOUS danger zone, simply because we can pray. Always remember, those who have been killed, probably died on their knees.
